Certified Genetic Counselor

I have been a genetic counselor for over 13 years and have worked in three states: Ohio, New Jersey and most recently, Illinois. I have been thinking about moving back to the East coast for about a year now. This sounds like a great opportunity with a great university.

60 credit Master's course at the first school in the US to offer the program.

Sarah Lawrence College

*   Individual and group counseling to develop and implement personalized service offerings based on patient and family priorities. 
*   Collection and interpretation of patient histories and medical records, documentation of findings, and recommendation of testing protocols. 
*   Counseling on genetic diagnoses, inheritance patterns, occurrence risks. 
*   Assessment of recurrent losses, teratogenic exposures, histories of genetic disorders.

Genetic Counselor

*   Autonomous and collaborative work with clinical peers to deliver well-coordinated, supportive patient experiences under challenging circumstances. 
*   Electronic medical record management for clinical and patient interaction updates. 
*   Interdisciplinary care, genetic testing facilitation, and educational resource provider for patients, families, and clinical team.

*   Evaluation of patient histories to perform comprehensive genetic risk assessments. 
*   Counseling on genetic factors and available testing. 
*   Performance of psychosocial assessments and pre- and post-test counseling. 
*   Creation of created patient and physician communications.

Is a certified genetic counselor that I hired as the head Maternal-Fetal Medicine.  The organization tried to change his job description without his permission.  He was angry and refused.  When he gets angry he does get rather emotional and has a nervous shake and twitch.  They accused him of being inebriated or high on medications. In the 7 years he worked with MFMI have never-ever seen him inebriated or under the influence of drugs.  I think they  fabricated a reason to terminate his employment.  Since he left we do not have a dedicated genetic counselor which has had a major negative impact on our division.  He was a welcome and values addition to our division and we miss him very much.

I was instrumental in convincing David to apply for a permanent position with Maternal Fetal Medince at Carle Physicians Group and directly managed him for approximately 2 years until my role changed in MFM.  I continued to work closely with David until he left in May 2023.  David is very dedicated to his patients. 
He is extremely  intelligent/knowledgeable person but is able to knows how to make very complex information understandable to everyone.  He is a very patient oriented person and determined that his patients get the best care.  He goes above and beyond to achieve that care.  He interacts well with all levels of co-workers from physcians to support staff.  It was a true pleasure to work with him.
