Hi! My name is Claire and I'm currently a student at UC Davis studying Genetics and Genomics, minoring in Statistics and Bioinformatics. I intend to pursue a degree in biostatistics and have an interest in machine learning and causal inference. 
My experiences have mainly been with coding: 3 years of Python, 2 years of R, and familiarity with the command line. I love reading (my favorite book being Into The Wild) and playing guitar. If I had pets, I'd write a blurb on them, but sadly I do not have a cat (yet...).

*   Analyzed viral datasets to extract and annotate proteins
*   Utilized profile HMMs in predicting SARS COV-2 mutation probabilities weighted by country
*   Cleaned and aligned genomic datasets using MAFFT and Clustal Omega
*   Grew and collected microbial cultures
*   Set up and performed gel electrophoresis
*   Prepared frozen samples using GP2 and imaged using Cryo-EM
*   Designed primers and performed qPCR to quantify DNA
*   Extracted DNA using miniprep or chloroform

Research Assistant

*   Developed Python programs that use intron position to predict gene enhancement
*   Examined orthologous genes to identify introns with potential for enhancing genes
*   Created algorithms to identify motifs using discretized position weight matrices, regular expressions, and k-mers
*   Implemented a Stochastic Viterbi and forward-backwards algorithm in Python to generate random, probable isoforms

• Coursework on basics of probability, Monte Carlo methods, linear models, covariates, and Bayesian statistics.
• Machine learning project on predicting colorectal cancer using metabolomics

* A presentation of our project to predict colorectal cancer using machine learning and metabolites
* The difference between our project and many other prediction algorithms is the use of nested CV to reduce overfitting
