Hello, my name is Cheyenne Buchanan. I am starting to look for work after taking a break after I got my Master's degree from CSU-Pueblo. I have my degree in Social Work. I am engaged and will be getting married next year, I have three step-children, one that lives with my fiancé and I full time and the other two split time with their mother and my fiancé. I live in Fountain, Colorado with my Mother in Law, fiancé, step-daughter and a family friends.

I started at this school back when it was Pikes Peak Community College, and I did was in a program called the 60/60 program. In this program I was able to get my pre-requisite classes out of the way, along with all my 100-200 classes. I finished at PPSC in summer of 2017.

I started at CSU-Pueblo in August of 2017, and this is the time frame where I did my internships with The Resource Exchange and Springs Rescue Mission. This time is where I completed my 300-400 classwork, along with both internships.

I started my Master Program with CSU Pueblo in August of 2019. This is where I completed my graduate school work and my internship with Genesis HealthCare. I graduated a year later than planned due to personal reasons, however I passed with a 100%

During my time with The Resource Exchange (TRE), I was able to go through each department and learn what they do. I started with intake and learned how to the paperwork and enter it into the data system. After that I was able to go out into the community with the coordinators and watch them work in action. I was able to see them interact with the clients and the families and I was able to see the behind scenes with the paperwork after the annual and bi-annual checkups. After Christmas break, I was supposed to pick a department so I could start learning more in depth and doing work myself, however, the company was not able to insure an intern for the rest of the school year.

Student Intern

During my time with Springs Rescue Mission (SRM), I worked one on one with the homeless population. I was placed in the Resource Center where I interned a case manager. I was able to have my own client list one the days that I interned. To begin working with the clients, I had to create a profile for them so that they could stay in the shelters, then from there I had to putting them on a housing waitlist and fill out the application with them. After we got the intake finished, I was able to help the client with anything from a clothing or bus voucher so they could get clothes from the SRM warehouse up the street, or take a bus to get to DHS or Social Security. I was able to help clients with job applications and look up other resources that they may have needed help with. After the case work was done for the day, I was able to help at the front desk, which is where the clients could check their mail, sign up for showers and laundry. This is where I was able to connect with the clients and get to know who they are as individuals.

During my time as an MSW student, I was able to intern at Genesis HealthCare. While I was interning here, my main job was to do the 3 month PH-Qs and and GAD. I had about 12-15 residents per week that I had to do these assessments on. I would start out by looking up their information in the database, and write it all out, then I would go talk to the residents and see how their memories are and how their depression and anxiety is compared to three months ago, and then compare everything in the data bases. I was also able to sit in on morning meetings to see what everyone was doing that day. I was also able to sit in on meetings with the families so we could talk about how the residents are living and talk about any complaints that the families may have so we can relieve them. This internship was unfortunately cut a month early due to the pandemic.
