
Surgical Technician, Operating Room

- Prepare operating room for surgical procedures by setting up necessary equipment and supplies.
- Assist surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and anticipating their needs.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during surgical procedures by monitoring vital signs and responding to any changes or concerns.
- Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room by following proper infection control protocols and techniques.
- Prepare and maintain surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies before and after procedures.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate and troubleshoot potential issues during procedures.
- Document accurately and thoroughly in patient records, including surgical counts and supply usage.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and protocols, as well as national and state regulations, in regards to patient care and safety.
- Continuously monitor and maintain inventory levels of surgical supplies and equipment.
- Train and mentor new surgical team members on proper techniques and procedures.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices and advancements in surgical technology.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to provide optimal care.
- Maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor at all times, adhering to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure a seamless and efficient surgical experience for patients.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and participate in safety initiatives to promote a safe work environment for all staff.
Completion Of An Accredited Surgical Technician Program: Candidates Must Have Completed An Accredited Program In Surgical Technology And Have A Diploma Or Certificate To Be Considered For The Role.
Certification As A Surgical Technologist: Candidates Must Hold A Valid Certification As A Certified Surgical Technologist (Cst) From The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa).
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In An Operating Room Setting: Candidates Should Have A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working As A Surgical Technician In An Operating Room, Preferably In A Hospital Setting.
Knowledge Of Surgical Procedures And Equipment: Candidates Must Possess A Strong Understanding Of Surgical Procedures, Instruments And Equipment Used In The Operating Room, Including But Not Limited To Laparoscopic, Endoscopic, And Robotic Surgical Systems.
Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: Candidates Must Be Able To Work Efficiently And Effectively In A Fast-Paced, High-Stress Environment. This Includes The Ability To Handle Multiple Tasks And Prioritize Responsibilities While Maintaining A High Level Of Accuracy And Attention To Detail.
