Job Description

Are you passionate about dogs and have a knack for training them? Do you have experience working with different breeds and behaviors? If so, Petco is seeking a dedicated and skilled Dog Trainer to join our team! As a Dog Trainer, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of both dogs and their owners by providing one-on-one training sessions and group classes.   1. Conduct one-on-one training sessions with dogs of various breeds and behaviors.
  2. Lead group training classes for dogs and their owners.
  3. Develop and implement training plans tailored to each dog's individual needs.
  4. Maintain a safe and positive training environment for both dogs and owners.
  5. Educate dog owners on proper training techniques and provide feedback and guidance.
  6. Evaluate and monitor the progress of each dog's training.
  7. Stay up-to-date on current dog training methods and techniques.
  8. Ensure all training equipment is clean, safe, and in good condition.
  9. Collaborate with other team members to provide comprehensive care for dogs in the store.
  10. Communicate effectively with customers and address any concerns or questions they may have.
  11. Record and maintain accurate training records for each dog.
  12. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  13. Continuously strive to improve and enhance the dog training program.
  14. Assist in the adoption process by assessing and training dogs in need of a new home.
  15. Display a positive and professional attitude towards all dogs, owners, and coworkers.

Job Qualifications
  • Extensive Knowledge Of Dog Behavior And Training Techniques: A Qualified Dog Trainer At Petco Should Possess A Deep Understanding Of Dog Behavior And Be Well-Versed In Various Training Techniques, Including Positive Reinforcement, Clicker Training, And Leash Training.

  • Experience Working With A Variety Of Dog Breeds And Sizes: Petco Dog Trainers Should Have Experience Working With A Diverse Range Of Dog Breeds And Sizes, As Each Breed May Require Different Training Methods And Approaches.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Effective Communication Is Crucial In Dog Training, As Trainers Need To Be Able To Clearly Convey Instructions To Both Dogs And Their Owners. A Dog Trainer At Petco Should Also Have Strong Interpersonal Skills To Build A Good Rapport With Clients And Their Pets.

  • Certification In Dog Training Or A Related Field: While Not Always A Requirement, Having A Certification In Dog Training Or A Related Field, Such As Animal Behavior, Can Demonstrate A Trainer's Knowledge And Dedication To Their Profession.

  • Physical Fitness And Stamina: Dog Training Can Be Physically Demanding, Requiring Trainers To Be On Their Feet For Long Periods And Have The Strength To Handle Larger Or More Energetic Dogs. A Dog Trainer At Petco Should Be Physically Fit And Have The Stamina To Keep Up With Their Furry Clients.
