- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the animal habitats and store environment.

- Take responsibility for the care and well-being of all animals in the store, including adoption animals.
- Assist with the training and mentoring of new team members to ensure they are knowledgeable and confident in their roles.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the store manager or supervisor.
Experience Working With A Variety Of Animals: An Animal Care Specialist Should Have Experience Handling And Caring For A Diverse Range Of Animals, Including But Not Limited To Dogs, Cats, Birds, Reptiles, And Small Animals. This Demonstrates A Strong Understanding Of Animal Behavior And The Ability To Provide Appropriate Care For Each Species.
Knowledge Of Animal Health And Nutrition: A Qualified Candidate For This Role Should Have A Good Understanding Of Animal Health And Nutrition. This Includes Knowledge Of Common Health Issues In Different Species, As Well As The Ability To Recommend And Sell Appropriate Food And Supplements To Pet Owners.
Strong Communication Skills: Animal Care Specialists Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Pet Owners, Coworkers, And Other Team Members. This Includes Providing Excellent Customer Service, As Well As Being Able To Clearly And Confidently Communicate Information About Animal Care And Products.
Physical Stamina And Strength: This Job May Require Lifting Heavy Bags Of Pet Food, Handling Large Animals, And Standing For Long Periods Of Time. Therefore, Physical Stamina And Strength Are Important Qualifications For An Animal Care Specialist.
