As a Geologist with the NRC, you will play a vital role in protecting public health and safety by conducting geological and hydrogeological evaluations for nuclear facilities and materials.   1. Conduct geological and hydrogeological evaluations: Perform thorough and accurate evaluations of geological and hydrogeological conditions for nuclear facilities and materials to ensure compliance with NRC regulations.
  2. Ensure safe and secure use of nuclear materials and facilities: Utilize your expertise in geology to identify potential hazards and risks associated with nuclear materials and facilities, and make recommendations to ensure their safe and secure use.
  3. Protect public health and safety: Collaborate with other team members to assess potential risks to public health and safety and provide solutions to mitigate these risks.
  4. Stay updated on industry regulations: Keep abreast of NRC regulations and industry standards related to geology and hydrogeology to ensure compliance and promote the safe use of nuclear resources.
  5. Conduct site visits and inspections: Conduct site visits and inspections to gather data and information necessary for geological evaluations and to verify compliance with NRC regulations.
  6. Perform data analysis and reporting: Analyze data and prepare reports to accurately communicate findings and recommendations to NRC management, stakeholders, and the public.
  7. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders: Work closely with other NRC staff, as well as officials from other government agencies and industry professionals, to ensure effective communication and coordination in the evaluation of nuclear facilities and materials.
  8. Participate in training and professional development: Stay current with developments in the field of geology by attending training, workshops, and conferences, and participate in professional organizations.
  9. Adhere to ethical and safety standards: Follow ethical standards and safety protocols in all aspects of work and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  10. Support the NRC's mission: Contribute to the NRC's mission of protecting public health and safety, promoting the common defense and security, and protecting the environment by fulfilling responsibilities to the best of your abilities.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Geology Or Related Field.

  • Knowledge Of Geological Principles, Including Mineralogy, Petrology, And Stratigraphy.

  • Familiarity With Nuclear Power Plant Operations And Regulations.

  • Experience In Conducting Geological Surveys And Analyzing Data.

  • Ability To Communicate Technical Information Effectively In Written And Verbal Formats.
