Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional Assistant Pathologist to join Northwestern University's Department of Pathology. In this role, you'll be responsible for assisting the Pathologist in the performance of all medical laboratory services. Reporting to the Pathologist, you will provide accurate and timely laboratory results, as well as consulting services in the areas of laboratory services, quality assurance, and pathology. To be successful in this role, you must have a Medical Doctorate degree with a specialty in Pathology (MD/DO), as well as valid licensure in the State of Illinois. A strong knowledge of lab instrumentation, the ability to work independently while adhering to the highest level of quality and safety standards, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Responsibilities:

  1. Assist Pathologist in the performance of medical laboratory services and provide accurate and timely laboratory results.
  2. Consult in the areas of laboratory services, quality assurance, and pathology.
  3. Ensure adherence to the highest level of quality and safety standards.
  4. Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation.
  5. Maintain records and reports.
  6. Develop and implement quality assurance standards.
  7. Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to laboratory personnel.
  8. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  9. Monitor laboratory performance and ensure accurate results.
  10. Act as a liaison between the laboratory and other departments.
  11. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
  12. Effectively communicate laboratory results and data.
