Student Medical Assistant

MercyOne is seeking a motivated and compassionate Student Medical Assistant to join our team in providing excellent patient care. The successful candidate will be a highly organized individual with strong attention to detail who is eager to learn new skills. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter and has a positive attitude.The Student Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting the medical staff with patient care and office duties. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of high school diploma and knowledge of clinical procedures. A certificate in medical assisting is preferred. The successful candidate must also possess strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent teamwork skills, a customer service orientation, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn and grow in this role.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist the medical staff with patient care and office duties.
2. Perform medical procedures as directed by the medical staff, including taking vital signs and drawing blood.
3. Follow HIPAA and OSHA regulations in accordance with patient privacy and safety protocols.
4. Maintain patient medical records in an organized and accurate manner.
5. Prepare patient rooms for examinations and treatments.
6. Greet patients in a friendly and professional manner.
7. Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
8. Schedule patient appointments and maintain an organized appointment calendar.
9. Collect and process patient payments and insurance information.
10. Assist with medical billing and coding.
11. Assist with laboratory tests and other diagnostic procedures.
12. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the medical office.
13. Participate in continuing education and training to stay up to date on industry trends.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
