Job Description

  1. Provide critical care to newborns in the NICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and attending to any medical emergencies.
  2. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
  3. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for neonatal patients and their families.
  4. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, treatments, and progress notes.
  5. Educate and support parents and family members on caring for their newborn in the NICU and upon discharge.
  6. Utilize evidence-based practices and stay up-to-date on best practices in neonatal nursing.
  7. Communicate effectively with physicians, healthcare team members, and other departments to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.
  8. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  9. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and overall patient experience.
  10. Serve as a mentor and resource for less experienced nurses and students in the NICU.
  11. Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and professionalism while interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.
  12. Attend continuing education and training opportunities to maintain and enhance nursing skills and knowledge.
  13. Stay current on all required certifications and licenses.
  14. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment by actively participating in team meetings and promoting open communication.
  15. Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy at all times.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Is Required For This Position. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Strong Foundation In Nursing Theory And Practice, As Well As The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Provide Care In A Specialized Setting Like The Nicu.

  • Valid Rn License: All Candidates Must Possess A Current And Valid Rn License In The State Where The Nicu Is Located. This Demonstrates That The Candidate Has Met The Necessary Education And Competency Requirements To Practice As A Registered Nurse.

  • Neonatal Intensive Care Certification (Rnc-Nic): Mercyone Prefers Candidates Who Hold A Certification In Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing. This Certification Demonstrates Specialized Knowledge And Expertise In Caring For Critically Ill Newborns, Which Is Essential For This Role.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Nicu Experience: Candidates Should Have A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working In A Nicu Setting. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Strong Understanding Of The Unique Challenges And Demands Of Caring For Critically Ill Newborns.

  • Bls And Nrp Certification: Basic Life Support (Bls) And Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Nrp) Certifications Are Required For This Position. These Certifications Demonstrate That The Candidate Has The Necessary Skills To Respond To Emergency Situations And Provide Life-Saving Interventions In The Nicu.
