Job Description

As a Unit Clerk, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our unit, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow of information and communication.   1. Greet and welcome patients, families, and visitors to the unit, providing them with a warm and friendly atmosphere.
  2. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are readily available.
  3. Answer phone calls and direct them to the appropriate staff members, taking messages when necessary.
  4. Assist with patient admissions, ensuring all necessary paperwork and documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  5. Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  6. Update and maintain patient records and charts, ensuring all information is accurate and up-to-date.
  7. Schedule appointments and procedures for patients, coordinating with other departments as needed.
  8. Monitor and order office supplies, maintaining appropriate inventory levels to support the unit's operations.
  9. Collaborate with other unit clerks and staff members to ensure a cohesive and collaborative work environment.
  10. Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  11. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay current on healthcare practices and procedures.
  12. Handle daily administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents as needed.
  13. Assist with discharge processes, coordinating with other departments to ensure a smooth transition for patients.
  14. Respond to patient and family inquiries and concerns, providing exceptional customer service at all times.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by unit management to support the overall functioning of the unit.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Unit Clerk At Medstar Health Should Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Education.

  • Prior Experience In A Healthcare Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Hospital, Clinic Or Other Healthcare Setting Is Preferred For This Role.

  • Strong Organizational And Time-Management Skills: Unit Clerks Are Responsible For Managing Multiple Tasks And Deadlines, So Strong Organizational And Time-Management Skills Are Essential.

  • Proficient Computer Skills: Medstar Health Utilizes Electronic Medical Records And Other Computer Systems, So Proficiency In Computer Skills Is Necessary For A Unit Clerk.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Unit Clerks Are Often The First Point Of Contact For Patients And Families, So Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Important For Building Rapport And Providing Exceptional Customer Service.
