Recreation Therapist

MedStar Health is looking for an experienced and passionate Recreation Therapist to join our team! This position requires specialized knowledge and skills in leisure, recreation, and activities for individuals with disabilities or chronic illnesses. The successful candidate will be patient-focused and have strong communication and organizational skills.The Recreation Therapist will work closely with patients to develop individualized treatment plans, evaluate progress, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the highest quality of care. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to think critically, and a commitment to providing excellent patient care. The successful candidate must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or a related field, and be certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification or have the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire. Previous experience in a healthcare setting is highly preferred. We are looking for someone who is compassionate, organized, and motivated to help our patients reach their highest levels of functioning and quality of life.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop individualized treatment plans for patients with disabilities or chronic illnesses.
2. Evaluate progress of patients and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
3. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide the highest quality of care.
4. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Think critically to provide patient care.
6. Maintain current National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
7. Possess previous experience in a healthcare setting.
8. Demonstrate compassion, organization, and motivation.
9. Facilitate leisure, recreation, and activities for individuals.
10. Monitor patient’s progress in treatment plans.
