- Provide lactation support and education to new mothers and their families.
- Promote and encourage breastfeeding as the preferred method of infant feeding.
- Assess and address any breastfeeding difficulties or concerns.
- Create personalized breastfeeding plans for mothers based on their individual needs.
- Assist with proper positioning and latching techniques for successful breastfeeding.
- Educate mothers on breast milk expression and storage.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for mothers and babies.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions and progress.
- Stay up-to-date on current research and best practices in lactation support.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to continually improve skills and knowledge.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to new mothers as they navigate their breastfeeding journey.
- Remain available for follow-up support and consultation as needed.
- Adhere to all hospital and professional standards and guidelines.
- Respect and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and other healthcare team members.
Certification From An Accredited Lactation Consultant Training Program: A Qualified Candidate For A Lactation Consultant Job At Medstar Health Should Possess A Certification From An Accredited Lactation Consultant Training Program, Such As The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (Ibclc) Certification.
Bachelor's Degree In A Related Field: A Bachelor's Degree In A Related Field, Such As Nursing, Healthcare, Or Biology, Is A Preferred Qualification For A Lactation Consultant Job At Medstar Health. This Demonstrates A Strong Foundation Of Knowledge In The Healthcare Field.
Previous Experience In Lactation Consulting: Medstar Health Seeks Candidates Who Have Previous Experience In Lactation Consulting, Preferably In A Hospital Or Healthcare Setting. This Experience Should Include Working With Diverse Populations And Handling Complex Lactation Issues.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: A Successful Lactation Consultant At Medstar Health Should Possess Excellent Communication Skills And The Ability To Establish A Rapport With Mothers And Their Families. This Includes Being Able To Effectively Educate And Counsel Them On Breastfeeding Techniques And Addressing Any Concerns Or Challenges They May Have.
Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: Medstar Health Is A Busy Healthcare System, And The Lactation Consultant Job Requires The Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment. The Candidate Should Be Able To Handle A High Volume Of Patients And Provide Quality Care In A Timely Manner. Flexibility And Adaptability Are Also Important Qualities For This Position.
