  1. Conduct genetic counseling sessions with patients and their families to assess risk, provide education, and support decision-making regarding genetic testing and treatment options.
  2. Stay up-to-date on current advancements and research in the field of genetics and incorporate new information into counseling sessions.
  3. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians and nurses, to provide comprehensive care for patients.
  4. Develop and maintain a strong rapport with patients and their families, demonstrating empathy and compassion throughout the counseling process.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient sessions, including assessments, recommendations, and follow-up plans.
  6. Communicate complex genetic information in a clear and understandable manner to patients and their families.
  7. Provide emotional support and resources to patients and their families as they navigate the genetic counseling process.
  8. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient cases and provide input on treatment plans.
  9. Serve as a resource for healthcare providers and other staff members regarding genetic counseling and testing.
  10. Stay compliant with all ethical and legal standards related to genetic counseling, including patient confidentiality and informed consent.
  11. Continuously evaluate and improve upon counseling techniques and practices to ensure the highest quality of care for patients.
  12. Participate in community outreach and education initiatives to promote awareness and understanding of genetic disorders and counseling services.
  13. Adhere to all MedStar Health policies and procedures, as well as industry standards and guidelines.
  14. Maintain professional development by attending conferences, workshops, and continuing education opportunities.
  15. Collaborate with insurance companies and other third-party payers to obtain coverage for genetic counseling services for patients.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program.

  • Board Certification From The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc) Or American Board Of Medical Genetics (Abmg).

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Experience In Genetic Counseling, Preferably In A Clinical Setting.

  • Strong Knowledge Of Genetic Testing And Interpretation Of Results.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Counsel Patients And Families.
