  1. Accurately and timely code medical records using current coding guidelines and regulations.
  2. Work independently and collaboratively with healthcare professionals to gather necessary information for coding.
  3. Ensure all coding is compliant with industry standards and regulations.
  4. Review and analyze medical records to ensure proper documentation and coding accuracy.
  5. Communicate any discrepancies or issues with coding to appropriate parties for resolution.
  6. Stay up-to-date on coding updates and changes in the healthcare industry.
  7. Work with other coding specialists to maintain consistency and accuracy in coding practices.
  8. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  9. Provide training and support to other team members as needed.
  10. Collaborate with billing and reimbursement teams to ensure accurate and timely claims submission.
  11. Conduct quality audits to identify any potential coding errors or discrepancies.
  12. Assist in the development and implementation of coding policies and procedures.
  13. Participate in continuing education and training to enhance coding skills and knowledge.

Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge Of Medical Coding Systems: A Coding Specialist At Medstar Health Should Possess A Thorough Understanding Of Medical Coding Systems Such As Icd-10, Cpt, And Hcpcs.

  • Familiarity With Healthcare Regulations: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Healthcare Regulations, Including Hipaa And Cms Guidelines, To Ensure Accurate And Compliant Coding Practices.

  • Attention To Detail: Accuracy Is Crucial In Medical Coding, So A Coding Specialist Should Have A Keen Eye For Detail To Avoid Errors And Discrepancies In Coding.

  • Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills: Coding Specialists Must Be Able To Analyze Medical Records And Identify Any Missing Or Unclear Information To Assign The Correct Codes. They Should Also Be Able To Resolve Any Coding Discrepancies Or Denials.

  • Certification In Medical Coding: A Certification From A Recognized Organization, Such As Ahima Or Aapc, Is Preferred For A Coding Specialist Position At Medstar Health. This Ensures That The Candidate Has Received Proper Training And Has A Solid Understanding Of Coding Principles.
