- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures by providing necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Maintain a sterile and safe surgical environment by following proper infection control protocols.
- Prepare and set up surgical equipment and supplies prior to procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide assistance accordingly.
- Monitor and record patient vital signs and assist with patient positioning.
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all surgical procedures.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.
- Participate in ongoing training and education to stay up-to-date on surgical techniques and equipment.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families before and after procedures.
- Assist with patient transport to and from the operating room.
- Maintain a clean and organized operating room environment.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons and other team members to ensure a smooth and successful surgical procedure.
- Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and maintain patient privacy at all times.
- Act as a positive ambassador for the Mayo Clinic by embodying our mission and values in all interactions.
Completion Of An Accredited Surgical Assistant Program: Candidates For This Position Should Have Completed A Formal Training Program In Surgical Assisting, Such As An Associate's Degree Or Certificate Program.
Certification As A Certified Surgical Assistant (Csa): The Ideal Candidate Should Hold Current Certification As A Csa From The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa).
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In An Operating Room Setting: Mayo Clinic Requires Candidates To Have At Least 2 Years Of Experience Working As A Surgical Assistant In An Operating Room Or A Similar Surgical Setting.
Strong Knowledge Of Surgical Procedures And Equipment: Candidates Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Surgical Procedures, Techniques, And Equipment Used In The Operating Room. This Includes Knowledge Of Sterile Technique And Infection Control Protocols.
Excellent Communication And Teamwork Skills: The Surgical Assistant Will Work Closely With Surgeons, Nurses, And Other Medical Professionals In A Fast-Paced, High-Pressure Environment. Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills Are Essential For Success In This Role.
