  1. Assist surgeons during surgical procedures by providing necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  2. Maintain a sterile and safe surgical environment by following proper infection control protocols.
  3. Prepare and set up surgical equipment and supplies prior to procedures.
  4. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide assistance accordingly.
  5. Monitor and record patient vital signs and assist with patient positioning.
  6. Collaborate with other healthcare team members to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  7. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all surgical procedures.
  8. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.
  9. Participate in ongoing training and education to stay up-to-date on surgical techniques and equipment.
  10. Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families before and after procedures.
  11. Assist with patient transport to and from the operating room.
  12. Maintain a clean and organized operating room environment.
  13. Communicate effectively with surgeons and other team members to ensure a smooth and successful surgical procedure.
  14. Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and maintain patient privacy at all times.
  15. Act as a positive ambassador for the Mayo Clinic by embodying our mission and values in all interactions.

Job Qualifications
  • Completion Of An Accredited Surgical Assistant Program: Candidates For This Position Should Have Completed A Formal Training Program In Surgical Assisting, Such As An Associate's Degree Or Certificate Program.

  • Certification As A Certified Surgical Assistant (Csa): The Ideal Candidate Should Hold Current Certification As A Csa From The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa).

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In An Operating Room Setting: Mayo Clinic Requires Candidates To Have At Least 2 Years Of Experience Working As A Surgical Assistant In An Operating Room Or A Similar Surgical Setting.

  • Strong Knowledge Of Surgical Procedures And Equipment: Candidates Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Surgical Procedures, Techniques, And Equipment Used In The Operating Room. This Includes Knowledge Of Sterile Technique And Infection Control Protocols.

  • Excellent Communication And Teamwork Skills: The Surgical Assistant Will Work Closely With Surgeons, Nurses, And Other Medical Professionals In A Fast-Paced, High-Pressure Environment. Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills Are Essential For Success In This Role.
