
Sterile Processing Technician

- Sterilize and process surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies in accordance with industry standards and Mayo Clinic policies and procedures.
- Inspect and test equipment to ensure proper functioning and take corrective action if necessary.
- Ensure all equipment and supplies are properly labeled and stored in designated areas.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and equipment maintenance.
- Collaborate with surgical team members to anticipate and prepare for upcoming procedures.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels of sterile supplies and order replacements as needed.
- Adhere to strict infection control and safety protocols to prevent the spread of infections.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to the sterilization process.
- Stay up-to-date on industry regulations and best practices related to sterile processing.
- Continuously assess and improve processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Train and mentor new team members on proper sterilization techniques and equipment use.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with team members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Follow all Mayo Clinic policies and procedures, including those related to confidentiality and patient privacy.
- Attend training and educational programs as required.
- Comply with all safety and occupational health standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Completion Of A Sterile Processing Technician Program: Candidates Must Have Completed An Accredited Program In Sterile Processing, Which Includes Courses On Sterilization Techniques, Medical Terminology, And Infection Control.
Certification: A Candidate Must Hold A Certified Registered Central Service Technician (Crcst) Certification From The International Association Of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (Iahcsmm) Or A Certified Sterile Processing And Distribution Technician (Cspdt) Certification From The Certification Board For Sterile Processing And Distribution (Cbspd).
Knowledge Of Medical Equipment And Instruments: Candidates Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Medical Equipment And Instruments, Including Their Proper Handling, Cleaning, And Sterilization Procedures.
Attention To Detail: The Job Of A Sterile Processing Technician Requires A High Level Of Attention To Detail In Order To Ensure That All Equipment And Instruments Are Properly Sterilized And Safe For Patient Use.
