
Social Worker - LMSW - Oncology, Supplemental

- Provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients and families dealing with cancer.
- Serve as an advocate for patients, ensuring their needs and concerns are heard and addressed.
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to identify patients' needs and develop individualized care plans.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and implement patient care plans.
- Utilize knowledge and expertise in social work to provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families.
- Connect patients and families with appropriate community resources and support services.
- Assist in navigating the healthcare system and provide education on treatment options and available resources.
- Conduct ongoing evaluations and monitor patients' progress and adjustment to treatment.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions and interventions.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and developments in social work, specifically in the field of oncology.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development and improvement of patient care.
- Adhere to all ethical and professional standards set by the National Association of Social Workers and the Mayo Clinic.
- Collaborate with insurance companies and other external entities to advocate for patients' needs and coverage.
- Provide crisis intervention and support as needed.
- Attend relevant trainings and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of oncology social work.
Master's Degree In Social Work: To Be Eligible For The Lmsw Designation, Candidates Must Hold A Master's Degree In Social Work (Msw) From An Accredited Program. This Provides A Strong Foundation In Theoretical Knowledge And Practical Skills Necessary For The Complex And Sensitive Work Of An Oncology Social Worker.
Licensure As A Social Worker: In Addition To A Master's Degree, Candidates Must Also Hold A Current And Valid License As A Social Worker In The State Where They Will Be Practicing. This Demonstrates A Commitment To Ethical And Professional Standards, As Well As The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Provide Effective Support To Oncology Patients And Their Families.
Oncology Experience: A Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience Working In An Oncology Setting Is Typically Required For A Supplemental Social Worker Position At Mayo Clinic. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Deep Understanding Of The Unique Challenges And Needs Of Cancer Patients And Their Families, As Well As The Ability To Provide Appropriate Support And Resources.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Social Workers Must Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills In Order To Effectively Collaborate With A Multidisciplinary Team Of Healthcare Professionals And Provide Compassionate Support To Patients And Their Families.
