Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Ontologist to join the Mayo Clinic's team to advance the development of our ontology-based systems. Our ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and creative individual with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills who can work effectively in a team environment. This individual should be passionate about ontology development, have a good understanding of ontology engineering principles, and be able to apply ontology-based technologies to support clinical research, informatics, and decision-making processes.The Senior Ontologist will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of ontology-based systems. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, with at least five years of experience in ontology engineering and data modeling. The Senior Ontologist should have a strong understanding of ontology languages, such as OWL, RDF, and OBO, and be familiar with the latest ontology engineering tools. Additionally, the candidate should have a good understanding of Semantic Web technologies and have experience with data integration and semantic search. Strong communication skills and an understanding of the healthcare domain are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of ontology-based systems.
  2. Design and develop ontologies using OWL, RDF, and OBO.
  3. Utilize Semantic Web technologies to support data integration and semantic search.
  4. Integrate ontology-based technologies to support clinical research, informatics, and decision-making processes.
  5. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
  6. Monitor the performance of ontology-based systems and make necessary changes and improvements.
  7. Collaborate with other teams and departments to ensure the successful implementation of ontology-based systems.
  8. Stay up-to-date with the latest ontology engineering tools and technologies.
  9. Develop and maintain documentation for ontology-based systems.
  10. Provide training and support to end-users.
