- Perform surgical procedures on patients with retinal conditions, including vitrectomies, retinal detachments, and macular degeneration treatments.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including taking medical histories, performing physical exams, and ordering diagnostic tests.
- Develop individualized treatment plans for patients based on their specific needs and medical histories.
- Collaborate with other physicians and healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements and technologies in the field of ophthalmology, specifically in surgical retina.
- Educate patients and their families about their condition, treatment options, and aftercare instructions.
- Monitor and track patient progress and document all treatments and interventions in medical records.

Medical Degree: A Minimum Of A Doctor Of Medicine (Md) Or Doctor Of Osteopathic Medicine (Do) Degree From An Accredited Medical School Is Required To Become An Ophthalmologist.
Residency Training: Completion Of A 3-Year Residency Program In Ophthalmology Is Necessary To Obtain The Necessary Surgical Skills And Knowledge To Become A Surgical Retina Specialist.
Fellowship In Surgical Retina: A 1-2 Year Fellowship In Surgical Retina Is Required To Gain Specialized Training And Expertise In Diagnosing And Treating Complex Retinal Conditions And Performing Advanced Surgical Procedures.
Board Certification: Candidates Must Be Board Certified In Ophthalmology By The American Board Of Ophthalmology (Abo) Or The American Osteopathic Board Of Ophthalmology And Otolaryngology (Aoboo) To Practice As A Surgical Retina Specialist.
Licensure: A Valid Medical License Is Required To Practice Medicine In The State Where The Mayo Clinic Is Located. Candidates Must Also Meet Any Additional Licensing Requirements In The State, Such As Continuing Education Credits.
