  1. Conduct thorough investigations into the cause and manner of death for cases within Fillmore/Mower County, utilizing forensic science techniques and medical terminology.
  2. Document and collect evidence at the scene of death, including photographs, measurements, and diagrams.
  3. Coordinate with local law enforcement, medical professionals, and other agencies to gather information and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  4. Communicate with families of the deceased with sensitivity and compassion, providing updates and answering questions about the investigation.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all investigations and findings, adhering to established protocols and procedures.
  6. Collaborate with other members of the team, including forensic pathologists and other investigators, to gather and analyze evidence and reach conclusions.
  7. Stay up-to-date on current laws, regulations, and best practices related to medicolegal death investigations.
  8. Attend and participate in trainings, seminars, and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge in the field.
  9. Prepare and present reports and findings to supervisors and other stakeholders, both orally and in writing.
  10. Adhere to strict confidentiality and ethical standards in all aspects of the job.
  11. Maintain and organize equipment and supplies necessary for conducting investigations.
  12. Represent Mayo Clinic in a professional and respectful manner at all times.
  13. Participate in on-call rotation and respond to death scenes as needed, including nights and weekends.
  14. Uphold the mission and values of Mayo Clinic in all aspects of the job.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In A Relevant Field, Such As Forensic Science, Biology, Or Criminal Justice.

  • Certification As A Medicolegal Death Investigator (Mdi) Through The American Board Of Medicolegal Death Investigators (Abmdi).

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In A Medicolegal Death Investigation Role, Preferably In A Hospital Or Medical Examiner's Office Setting.

  • Knowledge Of State And Federal Laws Related To Death Investigations, Including Hipaa Regulations And Evidentiary Procedures.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Interact Professionally With Families, Law Enforcement, And Healthcare Providers.
