  1. Sterilize and process surgical instruments according to established protocols and guidelines.
  2. Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent contamination and ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  3. Inspect instruments for damage or wear and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
  4. Properly assemble and prepare instrument trays for upcoming procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments are included.
  5. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of infection control and sterile processing techniques.
  6. Collaborate with surgical team members to determine instrument needs and ensure timely availability of instruments for procedures.
  7. Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  8. Keep accurate records of instrument processing and sterilization activities.
  9. Continuously monitor and maintain inventory levels of sterile supplies and inform management of any shortages.
  10. Attend training sessions and stay updated on the latest advancements in instrument processing techniques.
  11. Communicate effectively with colleagues and superiors to ensure smooth operations and high quality patient care.
  12. Maintain a positive and professional demeanor, providing excellent customer service to patients and their families.
  13. Follow all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  14. Contribute to the development and improvement of instrument processing protocols and procedures.
  15. Collaborate with other departments and teams to ensure efficient and effective instrument processing throughout the organization.

Job Qualifications
  • Extensive Knowledge Of Surgical Instruments And Equipment: As An Instrument Processing Specialist At Mayo Clinic, It Is Essential To Have A Deep Understanding Of Surgical Instruments And Equipment, As Well As Their Proper Handling And Sterilization Techniques.

  • Certification In Sterile Processing: A Certification In Sterile Processing, Such As The Certified Registered Central Service Technician (Crcst) Or The Certified Sterile Processing And Distribution Technician (Cspdt), Is Highly Preferred For This Role.

  • Attention To Detail: The Role Of An Instrument Processing Specialist Requires Meticulous Attention To Detail, As Any Mistakes In Handling Or Sterilizing Instruments Could Have Serious Consequences For Patients.

  • Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: Mayo Clinic Is A Busy And High-Volume Healthcare Facility, And The Instrument Processing Specialist Must Be Able To Work Efficiently And Effectively In A Fast-Paced Environment.
