- Conduct genetic counseling sessions with patients and their families to assess risk factors and explain complex genetic information in a clear and compassionate manner.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop personalized treatment plans for patients based on genetic testing results.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest research and advancements in clinical genomics to provide the most accurate and current information to patients and their families.
- Review and interpret genetic test results and communicate findings to patients and their healthcare team.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and their families as they navigate the potential implications of genetic testing and treatment options.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions, treatment plans, and genetic testing results.
- Educate and inform other healthcare professionals and staff members about the role of genetic counseling in patient care and treatment.
- Participate in research projects and clinical trials related to clinical genomics.
- Adhere to all ethical and legal standards of genetic counseling and patient confidentiality.
- Continuously evaluate and improve genetic counseling services at Mayo Clinic to ensure the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.
Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling: Candidates Should Possess A Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program, Demonstrating A Strong Foundation In Clinical Genomics.
Board Certification: Candidates Should Be Board Certified Or Board Eligible By The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc) Or American Board Of Medical Genetics (Abmg).
Experience In Clinical Genomics: Candidates Should Have A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In The Field Of Clinical Genomics, With A Strong Understanding Of Genetic Testing Methods And Interpretation Of Results.
Knowledge Of Florida Genetic Laws And Regulations: Candidates Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of The Laws And Regulations Governing Genetic Testing And Counseling In The State Of Florida.
Strong Communication And Counseling Skills: Candidates Should Possess Excellent Communication Skills And Be Able To Effectively Counsel Patients And Their Families On Complex Genetic Information In A Clear And Compassionate Manner. Fluency In Spanish Or Other Languages Commonly Spoken In Florida Is Also Preferred.
