As the Vertica DBA for our Data & BI Platform Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our data infrastructure to support critical business operations.   1. Manage and maintain the Vertica database to ensure data integrity and availability for critical business processes.
  2. Optimize database performance through regular tuning and troubleshooting.
  3. Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure data protection.
  4. Monitor database activity and proactively identify and resolve any issues or errors.
  5. Collaborate with the Data & BI Platform Engineering team to design and implement new database solutions to support business needs.
  6. Stay up-to-date with the latest Vertica database technology and make recommendations for its implementation.
  7. Work closely with cross-functional teams to support data-related projects and initiatives.
  8. Create and maintain documentation of database procedures and standards.
  9. Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations.
  10. Train and mentor junior DBAs on database management practices and procedures.
  11. Communicate effectively with stakeholders and provide timely updates on database performance and maintenance.
  12. Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to increase efficiency.
  13. Participate in on-call rotation for database support and issue resolution.
  14. Continuously monitor and analyze database usage and provide recommendations for optimization.
  15. Collaborate with other DBAs to maintain a high level of availability and reliability for the entire database environment.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree In Computer Science Or Related Field: A Strong Foundation In Computer Science Principles And Database Management Is Essential For A Vertica Dba Role.

  • Extensive Experience With Vertica Database Administration: Candidates Should Have At Least 3-5 Years Of Hands-On Experience Managing And Maintaining Vertica Databases In A Production Environment.

  • Proficiency In Sql And Other Database Query Languages: A Deep Understanding Of Sql And Other Database Query Languages Is Crucial For A Vertica Dba To Effectively Manage And Optimize Database Performance.

  • Familiarity With Data Warehousing And Business Intelligence Concepts: The Role Of A Vertica Dba At Massmutual Will Involve Working With Large Data Sets And Collaborating With Bi Teams, So Experience With Data Warehousing And Business Intelligence Concepts Is Highly Desirable.

  • Strong Problem-Solving And Analytical Skills: As The Primary Point Of Contact For Troubleshooting And Resolving Database Issues, A Vertica Dba Must Possess Strong Problem-Solving And Analytical Skills To Quickly Identify And Resolve Problems.
