- Respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls in a timely and efficient manner.
- Gather and document accurate information from callers, including the nature and location of the emergency or incident.
- Dispatch appropriate personnel, such as police officers, firefighters, or medical services, to the scene as needed.
- Monitor and coordinate radio communications between officers and other emergency services.
- Utilize various computer systems and databases to access information and provide support during emergency situations.
- Remain calm and composed while handling high-stress situations and communicating with distressed or upset individuals.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all calls and dispatch activities.
- Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Maintain a strong understanding of department policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Continuously assess and prioritize incoming calls and dispatch resources accordingly.
- Collaborate with other members of the police department to ensure effective and efficient response to emergency situations.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing community concerns and answering inquiries about department operations.
- Stay updated on current emergency response protocols and attend training sessions as required.
- Follow department guidelines and protocols for reporting and documenting any unusual or suspicious activity.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department supervisor.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Requirement For The Position Of Police Dispatcher At Mit Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent, Demonstrating A Basic Level Of Education And Competency.
Prior Experience In Emergency Dispatch: Candidates With Prior Experience In Emergency Dispatch, Preferably In A Law Enforcement Setting, Will Be Given Preference For The Position. This Experience Will Demonstrate An Understanding Of The Role And Responsibilities Of A Police Dispatcher.
Excellent Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is A Crucial Aspect Of The Job Of A Police Dispatcher. Candidates Should Possess Excellent Verbal And Written Communication Skills, As Well As The Ability To Communicate Clearly And Calmly In High-Stress Situations.
