As a Collections Archivist, you will play a crucial role in preserving and promoting the rich history and diverse collections of MIT.   1. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the acquisition, preservation, and organization of archival materials.
  2. Conduct thorough assessments of current collections and identify areas for improvement or expansion.
  3. Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to identify and prioritize materials for acquisition and ensure their proper care and storage.
  4. Catalog and digitize materials according to established standards and guidelines.
  5. Ensure the proper handling and storage of sensitive materials, such as photographs, manuscripts, and audio/visual recordings.
  6. Maintain accurate records and inventories of all materials in the collection.
  7. Respond to inquiries and requests for access to materials from researchers and other interested parties.
  8. Plan and execute exhibitions and events to showcase the collections and raise awareness of their significance.
  9. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in archival work, and incorporate them into daily operations.
  10. Train and supervise volunteers and interns assisting with archival tasks.
  11. Collaborate with other departments within the institution to promote and integrate the collections into various educational and outreach initiatives.
  12. Monitor and manage the budget for the acquisition, preservation, and promotion of collections.
  13. Advocate for the importance of preserving and making accessible historical materials within the institution and the broader community.
  14. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to ensure the proper preservation of materials.
  15. Support the mission and values of the institution and contribute to a positive and inclusive work culture.

Job Qualifications
  • A Degree In Library Science, Archival Studies, Or A Related Field.

  • At Least 2 Years Of Experience Working With Collections And Archives In A Professional Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Archival Principles, Practices, And Procedures, Including Arrangement, Description, And Preservation.

  • Familiarity With Digital Archives And Experience With Digital Preservation Tools And Techniques.

  • Strong Research And Organizational Skills, With Attention To Detail And Accuracy.
