Job Description

Loma Linda University is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child Life Specialist to join our team. As an unscheduled Child Life Specialist, you will have the opportunity to provide emotional and psychosocial support to children and families during their hospital stay.   1. Develop and implement age-appropriate interventions and activities to promote coping and emotional well-being for children and families in the hospital setting.
  2. Utilize knowledge of child development to assess the individual needs of each child and provide personalized support and interventions.
  3. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive care for patients and families.
  4. Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families to provide ongoing support and promote a sense of safety and security during their hospital stay.
  5. Utilize evidence-based practices to address the emotional and psychosocial needs of children and families.
  6. Advocate for the needs and rights of children and families within the hospital setting.
  7. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions, interventions, and outcomes.
  8. Provide education and support to families on how to support their child's emotional and developmental needs during and after their hospital stay.
  9. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure the holistic care of patients.
  10. Stay up-to-date on current research, trends, and best practices in child life and integrate this knowledge into practice.
  11. Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  12. Provide emotional support and guidance to parents and family members during difficult medical procedures and decisions.
  13. Assist in the development of hospital policies and procedures related to child life services.
  14. Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  15. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for children and families in the hospital setting.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Or Related Field

  • Certification As A Child Life Specialist (Ccls) Through The Association Of Child Life Professionals

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working With Children In A Healthcare Setting

  • Knowledge Of Child Development, Family Systems, And Medical Terminology

  • Ability To Work Flexible Hours, Including Evenings And Weekends, With An On-Call Component For Unscheduled Patient Needs
