Job Description

We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Specimen Accessioner to join our team. As a Specimen Accessioner, you will play a crucial role in our laboratory operations by accurately receiving and processing patient specimens. We are looking for someone who is organized, efficient, and has a strong attention to detail.   1. Receive and process patient specimens in a timely and accurate manner.
  2. Verify and enter patient information into the laboratory information system.
  3. Handle specimen labeling and ensure proper identification.
  4. Prepare specimens for testing and maintain proper storage and handling procedures.
  5. Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  6. Communicate with laboratory staff to ensure timely and accurate processing of specimens.
  7. Troubleshoot any issues that may arise during specimen processing.
  8. Maintain accurate records and documentation of specimen processing.
  9. Adhere to all laboratory policies and procedures.
  10. Keep up-to-date with industry standards and best practices for specimen processing.
  11. Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies.
  12. Provide excellent customer service to patients and clients.
  13. Collaborate with other team members to improve efficiency and workflow.
  14. Attend trainings and meetings as required.
  15. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and follow HIPAA regulations.
  16. Continuously review and improve processes to ensure accuracy and quality.
  17. Report any discrepancies or issues to management.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Ged: A Minimum Educational Requirement For A Specimen Accessioner Position At Labcorp Is A High School Diploma Or Equivalent.

  • Experience In A Medical Or Laboratory Setting: Prior Experience Working In A Medical Or Laboratory Environment Is Preferred For This Role. This Includes Experience Handling And Processing Specimens, As Well As Knowledge Of Laboratory Procedures.

  • Attention To Detail: As A Specimen Accessioner, It Is Crucial To Have Excellent Attention To Detail To Accurately Identify And Process Specimens. This Includes Checking For Any Errors Or Discrepancies In Specimen Labels And Documentation.

  • Knowledge Of Laboratory Information Systems: Familiarity With Laboratory Information Systems (Lis) Is Essential For This Role, As Specimen Accessioners Are Responsible For Entering And Managing Data In These Systems.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong Communication Skills Are Necessary For A Specimen Accessioner To Effectively Communicate With Coworkers, Healthcare Providers, And Patients. This Includes Being Able To Follow Instructions, Ask Questions When Needed, And Provide Updates On Specimen Processing.
