- Perform various diagnostic tests and measurements on patients to assist ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions.
- Prepare patients for ophthalmic procedures and surgeries by explaining the process, providing instructions, and addressing any concerns.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including medical history and test results.
- Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment to ensure they are in proper working condition.
- Administer eye drops and medications as directed by ophthalmologist.
- Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care.
- Assist with patient education and provide resources for managing eye conditions.
- Follow infection control protocols to ensure a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
- Stay up-to-date with current ophthalmic techniques, procedures, and equipment by attending trainings and workshops.
- Collaborate with other healthcare team members to provide comprehensive care for patients.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including HIPAA regulations.
- Demonstrate a commitment to patient satisfaction and provide excellent customer service.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by the ophthalmologist or supervisor.
Education And Training: A Minimum Of An Associate's Degree In Ophthalmic Technology Or A Related Field Is Required. Additional Certifications And Training In Specific Ophthalmic Procedures And Technologies May Also Be Preferred.
Clinical Experience: Candidates Should Have A Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience Working As An Ophthalmic Technician In A Clinical Setting. This Experience Should Include Performing Diagnostic And Screening Tests, Assisting With Procedures, And Working With Patients Of All Ages.
Knowledge Of Ophthalmic Equipment: A Strong Understanding Of Ophthalmic Equipment, Such As Slit Lamps, Tonometers, And Visual Field Machines Is Essential For This Role. Candidates Should Also Be Familiar With Electronic Health Record Systems And Other Computer Software Used In Ophthalmology.
Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Technicians, Ophthalmic Must Have Excellent Communication Skills To Interact With Patients, Ophthalmologists, And Other Healthcare Professionals. They Should Also Be Able To Work Effectively In A Team Environment And Have Strong Interpersonal Skills To Establish Rapport With Patients.
Attention To Detail And Organizational Skills: Attention To Detail Is Critical In This Role, As Ophthalmic Technicians Are Responsible For Accurately Recording And Documenting Patient Information, Test Results, And Treatment Plans. Strong Organizational Skills Are Also Necessary To Manage A High Volume Of Patients And Procedures In A Fast-Paced Clinical Environment.
