  1. Assist orthopedic specialists with patient care: The primary responsibility of an Orthopedic Technician is to assist orthopedic specialists with patient care. This includes preparing patients for exams and procedures, taking vital signs, and assisting with treatments and procedures.
  2. Maintain and prepare equipment: The Orthopedic Technician will be responsible for maintaining and preparing orthopedic equipment and supplies. This includes ensuring equipment is in good working condition, properly sterilized, and readily available for use.
  3. Educate patients on post-operative care: A key responsibility of the Orthopedic Technician is to educate patients on post-operative care and provide them with necessary instructions for recovery. This may include demonstrating exercises or assisting with the use of assistive devices.
  4. Document patient information: The Orthopedic Technician will be responsible for accurately documenting patient information and maintaining medical records. This includes recording vital signs, treatments performed, and any pertinent patient information.
  5. Assist with diagnostic testing: In some cases, the Orthopedic Technician may be responsible for assisting with diagnostic testing such as x-rays or MRIs. This may include positioning patients, operating equipment, and ensuring proper documentation.
  6. Collaborate with healthcare team: As a member of the healthcare team, the Orthopedic Technician will collaborate with other medical professionals to ensure the best possible care for patients. This may involve communicating patient progress, providing input on treatment plans, and following up on patient care.
  7. Adhere to safety and infection control protocols: It is the responsibility of the Orthopedic Technician to adhere to all safety and infection control protocols to ensure the health and safety of patients and healthcare workers. This includes proper handling and disposal of medical waste and following established protocols for preventing the spread of infection.

Job Qualifications
  • Relevant Education And Certification: A Minimum Of An Associate's Degree In Orthopedic Technology Or A Related Field Is Required, Along With Certification From The National Board For Certification Of Orthopedic Technologists (Nbcot).

  • Experience In A Healthcare Setting: Previous Experience Working In A Hospital Or Clinic, Preferably In An Orthopedic Department, Is Highly Preferred. This Demonstrates A Familiarity With Medical Terminology, Equipment, And Procedures.

  • Knowledge Of Orthopedic Procedures And Equipment: A Strong Understanding Of Orthopedic Conditions, Treatments, And Surgical Procedures Is Essential For This Role. Experience With Orthopedic Equipment, Such As Traction Devices And Splints, Is Also A Valuable Qualification.

  • Attention To Detail And Organization Skills: As An Orthopedic Technician, You Will Be Responsible For Ensuring Accurate And Timely Documentation Of Patient Records And Managing Equipment Inventory. Strong Attention To Detail And Organizational Skills Are Necessary To Perform These Tasks Effectively.

  • Ability To Work In A Fast-Paced Environment: The Orthopedic Department At Kaiser Permanente Can Be A Fast-Paced And High-Pressure Environment, Especially During Peak Hours. The Ideal Candidate Should Be Able To Prioritize Tasks And Work Efficiently Under Pressure To Ensure The Smooth Flow Of Patient Care.
