Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, tech-savvy Server Engineer to join our IT team at Houston Methodist. As a Server Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting our server architecture and systems. You should be a problem solver and have a strong attention to detail. To be successful in this role, you should have excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and at least five years of experience in server engineering. They should also have a working knowledge of network and server administration, web server technologies, and database technologies. Demonstrated experience with scripting languages, and system automation tools is desired. Additionally, the candidate should possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills and be able to work independently as well as with a team. Responsibilities:

  1. Design, implement, and maintain server architecture and systems.
  2. Troubleshoot server and network issues, and resolve them in a timely manner.
  3. Monitor server performance and capacity utilization.
  4. Develop and maintain server automation scripts and system automation tools.
  5. Install, configure, and update server software.
  6. Create and maintain system documentation.
  7. Establish and maintain security policies and procedures.
  8. Monitor system security to ensure compliance with security standards.
  9. Provide technical support to users and staff.
  10. Respond to system alerts and escalations.
  11. Develop and implement backup and recovery procedures.
  12. Manage system upgrades and maintenance.
  13. Participate in IT projects and provide input on server related tasks.
  14. Research emerging technologies and best practices.
