Job Description

Houston Methodist is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Coding Specialist to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized and detail-oriented healthcare professional to join a well-respected and dynamic organization. The successful candidate will use their comprehensive knowledge of coding, auditing, and reimbursement principles to ensure accurate and timely coding for various services.To be considered for this position, the ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and 3+ years of coding experience in a healthcare setting. In addition, they should have a working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems, as well as knowledge of coding software such as 3M Encoder, and have the ability to evaluate medical records to identify diagnosis and procedures for accurate coding. A Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is preferred.The Senior Coding Specialist should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. This position requires an individual who is reliable, organized, and able to work efficiently and accurately. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and driven, with a strong commitment to customer service and quality.

Responsibilities:

  1. Review and accurately code various medical services and procedures according to CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems.
  2. Utilize coding software such as 3M Encoder to accurately code and bill claims.
  3. Monitor coding accuracy and accuracy of reimbursement claims.
  4. Analyze medical records to identify diagnosis and procedures for accurate coding.
  5. Maintain knowledge of coding regulations, updates and changes.
  6. Ensure timely and accurate coding for all services.
  7. Provide training and guidance to other coding staff as needed.
  8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding and billing rules, regulations and guidelines.
  9. Participate in coding audits and audits of medical records.
  10. Maintain complete and accurate coding records.
  11. Communicate effectively with insurance companies, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  12. Monitor coding accuracy and accuracy of reimbursement claims.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
