
Lactation Support Consultant - Part Time
Are you passionate about supporting new mothers on their breastfeeding journey? Do you have a strong understanding of lactation and infant feeding practices? Houston Methodist is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Lactation Support Consultant to join our team on a part-time basis. In this role, you will provide education, guidance, and support to new mothers to help them establish and maintain successful breastfeeding. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a lactation consultant and hold a current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification. - Provide compassionate and knowledgeable lactation support to new mothers at Houston Methodist.
- Utilize your strong understanding of lactation and infant feeding practices to assist new mothers in establishing and maintaining successful breastfeeding.
- Educate and guide new mothers on best practices for breastfeeding, including proper latch and positioning.
- Conduct thorough assessments of mothers and infants to identify any potential breastfeeding challenges or concerns.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans for mothers and babies.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of lactation consultations and follow-up appointments.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest research and developments in lactation and infant feeding practices.
- Serve as a resource for new mothers by providing ongoing support and guidance throughout their breastfeeding journey.
- Participate in staff education and training to promote a culture of breastfeeding support within the organization.
- Maintain a professional and empathetic demeanor while working with diverse populations of new mothers.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as professional standards and ethical guidelines.
- Continuously evaluate and improve upon lactation support services to ensure the highest level of care for new mothers and their babies.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship with other healthcare professionals and team members.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings and trainings as required.
- Hold a current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification and have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a lactation consultant.
Certification In Lactation Support: The Ideal Candidate Should Hold A Certification In Lactation Support, Such As An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (Ibclc) Or Certified Lactation Counselor (Clc).
Experience In Lactation Support: A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Providing Lactation Support To New Mothers Is Required For This Role. This Could Include Experience In A Hospital, Clinic, Or Private Practice Setting.
Knowledge Of Breastfeeding Best Practices: The Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Breastfeeding Best Practices, Including Proper Latch Techniques, Breast Milk Production, And Common Breastfeeding Challenges.
Excellent Communication Skills: As A Lactation Support Consultant, The Candidate Will Be Working Closely With New Mothers And Their Families, So Strong Communication Skills Are Essential. This Includes The Ability To Provide Information In A Clear And Compassionate Manner.
Flexibility And Availability: This Position Is Part-Time, So The Candidate Should Be Available To Work Flexible Hours, Including Weekends And Evenings, To Accommodate The Needs Of New Mothers. They Should Also Be Willing To Travel To Different Houston Methodist Locations As Needed.
