We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Histology Technician (Days) to join our Anatomical Pathology team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the diagnosis and treatment of our patients by preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination.   1. Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination with precision and accuracy.
  2. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microtomes, tissue processors, and embedding stations.
  3. Follow established protocols and procedures for tissue processing, embedding, cutting, staining, and mounting.
  4. Prepare and maintain reagents and solutions used in tissue processing and staining.
  5. Ensure timely and accurate completion of all tasks, adhering to established turnaround times.
  6. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following laboratory safety and infection control protocols.
  7. Perform quality control and assurance procedures to maintain accurate results.
  8. Collaborate with pathologists and other laboratory staff to troubleshoot issues and ensure optimal tissue processing and staining.
  9. Keep accurate records of all procedures and results, including patient information, specimen identification, and test results.
  10. Stay up-to-date with new techniques and technologies in the field of histology, and implement them as appropriate.
  11. Participate in training and orientation of new staff and students.
  12. Communicate effectively with team members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  13. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  14. Follow all hospital policies and procedures, as well as federal and state regulations.
  15. Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, and colleagues.
  16. Attend departmental meetings and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  17. Work independently and as part of a team to ensure efficient and accurate delivery of results.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In A Related Field: Candidates For The Histology Technician Position At Houston Methodist Should Have A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In A Related Field, Such As Biology Or Medical Laboratory Science. This Education Provides A Strong Foundation In The Scientific Principles And Techniques Necessary For Success In This Role.

  • Ht (Ascp) Certification: The Histology Technician Position At Houston Methodist Requires Certification From The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) As A Histotechnician (Ht). This Certification Ensures That Candidates Have The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform High-Quality Histology Work.

  • Prior Experience In Histology: Candidates Should Have At Least 1-2 Years Of Experience Working In A Histology Laboratory Setting. This Experience Allows Them To Become Familiar With The Equipment, Procedures, And Protocols Used In A Histology Lab, Making Them Better Prepared To Excel In This Role.

  • Familiarity With Relevant Software And Technology: A Histology Technician At Houston Methodist Should Be Comfortable Working With Various Computer Software Programs And Laboratory Technology, Such As Microscopes And Tissue Processors. Experience With Electronic Medical Record Systems Is Also Preferred.

  • Strong Attention To Detail And Organization Skills: Histology Work Requires A High Level Of Precision And Attention To Detail. Candidates Should Have A Strong Eye For Detail And Be Able To Follow Strict Protocols And Procedures To Ensure Accurate Results. Strong Organization Skills Are Also Necessary To Manage Multiple Tasks And Maintain A Clean And Orderly Laboratory Environment.
