- Perform complex cardiothoracic surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair/replacement, and other advanced procedures.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements and techniques in cardiothoracic surgery and incorporate them into practice.
- Conduct pre-operative consultations with patients to determine the best course of treatment.
- Develop individualized treatment plans for each patient based on their specific condition and medical history.
- Coordinate with other members of the healthcare team, including anesthesiologists, nurses, and technicians, to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures.
- Monitor patients closely during and after surgery to identify and address any potential complications.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families to educate them about their condition, treatment options, and post-operative care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations, related to patient care and safety.
- Collaborate with other physicians and healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for residents and fellows in training.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and other educational events to stay current in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
- Participate in research projects and clinical trials to advance the field of cardiothoracic surgery.

Medical Degree: A Minimum Of A Doctor Of Medicine (Md) Degree From An Accredited Medical School Is Required To Become A Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
Residency Training: Completion Of A 5-7 Year Accredited Residency Program In General Surgery Is Necessary For A Cardiothoracic Surgeon. This Training Provides Hands-On Experience In Diagnosing And Treating Various Conditions Related To The Heart And Lungs.
Board Certification: Candidates Must Be Certified By The American Board Of Thoracic Surgery (Abts) Or The American Board Of Surgery (Abs) To Be Considered For A Cardiothoracic Surgeon Job At Houston Methodist.
Experience: A Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Cardiothoracic Surgery Is Preferred. This Can Include Experience In Performing Complex Surgeries Such As Heart Transplants, Valve Repair/Replacement, And Minimally Invasive Procedures.
State Licensure: Candidates Must Possess A Valid License To Practice Medicine In The State Of Texas. This Requires Passing The United States Medical Licensing Examination (Usmle) And Meeting All State-Specific Requirements.
