  1. Conduct initial patient assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the primary care physician.
  2. Perform routine physical exams and screenings, as well as diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses.
  3. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as lab work and imaging studies.
  4. Prescribe medications and provide patient education on medication usage and potential side effects.
  5. Monitor and manage chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.
  6. Provide patient-centered care and promote patient engagement in their own healthcare.
  7. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and facilitate patient care.
  8. Document patient encounters and maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  9. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
  10. Stay current on advancements and changes in the field of primary care and incorporate new knowledge into practice.
  11. Act as a mentor and resource for other healthcare professionals, including nurses and medical students.
  12. Adhere to all ethical and legal standards of the medical profession.
  13. Maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor with patients, families, and colleagues.
  14. Take an active role in continuing education and professional development opportunities.

Job Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree In Nursing Or Related Field: Typically, The Minimum Education Requirement For An Advanced Practice Provider In Primary Care At Houston Methodist Is A Master’s Degree In Nursing Or A Related Field. This Level Of Education Ensures That The Provider Has A Strong Foundation In Clinical Knowledge And Skills Necessary For Providing Comprehensive Primary Care Services.

  • Current State License And Certification: All Advanced Practice Providers At Houston Methodist Must Hold A Valid State License And Be Certified By A Nationally Recognized Certifying Body Such As The American Nurses Credentialing Center (Ancc) Or American Academy Of Nurse Practitioners (Aanp). This Ensures That The Provider Is Qualified And Competent To Practice As A Primary Care Provider.

  • Clinical Experience In Primary Care: Houston Methodist Seeks Candidates With At Least 2-3 Years Of Clinical Experience In A Primary Care Setting. This Experience Should Include Managing A Diverse Patient Population, Performing Physical Exams, Ordering And Interpreting Diagnostic Tests, And Prescribing Medications.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Primary Care Provider, Effective Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For Establishing Trust And Building Relationships With Patients. Advanced Practice Providers At Houston Methodist Must Possess Excellent Communication Skills To Effectively Communicate With Patients, Colleagues, And Other Healthcare Professionals.
