- Develop and implement legal strategies to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on employment law matters and provide guidance and counsel to internal stakeholders, including HR, management, and employees.
- Lead and manage a team of legal professionals, providing mentorship and guidance to ensure their continued growth and development.
- Oversee and manage all legal aspects of employment-related litigation, including investigations, negotiations, and settlements.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews of company policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify potential legal risks and develop proactive solutions to mitigate those risks.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external legal counsel and manage outside legal resources as needed.
- Keep abreast of changes in employment laws and regulations and proactively advise the company on any necessary updates or changes to policies and procedures.
- Partner with HR and other key stakeholders to ensure consistency and fairness in employment practices and decisions.
- Represent Gusto in legal proceedings, including mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances.
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management and other key stakeholders on legal matters and risks.
- Foster a culture of compliance and ethical behavior within the company.
- Continually evaluate and improve processes and procedures related to employment law and litigation management.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the leadership team on all legal matters related to employment and litigation.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the role.
Extensive Legal Knowledge: The Ideal Candidate For This Role Should Possess A Strong Understanding Of Employment And Litigation Laws, Regulations, And Best Practices. They Should Also Have A Comprehensive Understanding Of How These Laws Apply To Different Industries And Be Able To Provide Strategic Legal Advice To The Company.
Leadership Experience: As The Head Of Legal Employment And Litigation At Gusto, This Individual Will Be Responsible For Managing A Team Of Lawyers And Legal Professionals. Therefore, They Should Have Experience In Leading And Developing A Team, As Well As The Ability To Delegate Tasks, Provide Mentorship, And Foster A Collaborative Work Environment.
Litigation Experience: The Candidate Should Have A Proven Track Record Of Successfully Managing Complex Employment And Litigation Cases. This Includes Experience In Developing Legal Strategies, Handling Negotiations, And Representing Clients In Court. Additionally, Experience In Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods Such As Mediation And Arbitration Is Highly Desirable.
Communication And Interpersonal Skills: This Role Will Require Frequent Interaction With Internal Stakeholders, External Legal Partners, And Government Agencies. The Ideal Candidate Should Have Exceptional Communication And Interpersonal Skills, Be Able To Clearly Articulate Legal Concepts, And Build Strong Relationships With All Parties Involved.
