- Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures for all projects and systems, in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety issues and proactively address them.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety considerations are integrated into all stages of the project life cycle, from design to testing and implementation.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on safety-related matters to project managers, engineers, and other team members.
- Review and evaluate system designs and modifications to identify potential safety hazards and recommend necessary changes.
- Monitor and analyze safety data, including incident reports and near-miss events, to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to educate employees on proper safety procedures and protocols.
- Stay up-to-date on industry developments and best practices related to system safety, and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and participate in safety-related meetings and discussions.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
- Prepare and maintain safety documentation, including reports, records, and manuals.
- Communicate safety-related information and updates to project teams and management, and provide recommendations for mitigating potential safety risks.
- Act as a safety advocate and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Bachelor's Degree In Engineering: A System Safety Engineer At General Atomics Is Expected To Have A Strong Foundation In Engineering Principles, Which Is Why A Bachelor's Degree In Engineering Is A Minimum Requirement For This Position. Specialization In Fields Such As Electrical, Mechanical, Or Aerospace Engineering Is Preferred.
Relevant Work Experience: General Atomics Looks For Candidates With At Least 3-5 Years Of Experience In System Safety Engineering. Previous Work Experience In The Aerospace, Defense, Or Aviation Industry Is Highly Desirable.
Knowledge Of Safety Standards And Regulations: A System Safety Engineer At General Atomics Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Safety Standards And Regulations Such As Mil-Std-882, Faa Regulations, And Iso 26262. Experience In Implementing These Standards And Regulations In A Manufacturing Or Engineering Environment Is A Plus.
Risk Management Skills: As A System Safety Engineer, One Must Be Able To Identify, Analyze, And Mitigate Potential Hazards In Complex Systems. Strong Risk Management Skills Are Essential For This Role, Along With The Ability To Develop And Implement Safety Plans And Procedures.
Certification In System Safety: Possessing A Certification In System Safety, Such As Certified System Safety Professional (Cssp) Or Certified Safety Professional (Csp), Is Highly Preferred For A System Safety Engineer Position At General Atomics. These Certifications Demonstrate A Deep Understanding Of System Safety Principles And Processes.
