
Supervisory Emergency Management Specialist (Individuals & Households Group Supervisor (HUGS)

- Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Individuals & Households Group (HUGS) within the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
- Lead a team of emergency management specialists and coordinators in providing assistance to individuals and households impacted by disasters.
- Develop and implement strategies to effectively and efficiently provide disaster assistance to affected communities.
- Create and maintain partnerships with state and local emergency management agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to coordinate disaster response efforts.
- Develop and maintain plans and procedures for the HUGS division, ensuring compliance with FEMA policies and regulations.
- Monitor and analyze data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement in disaster assistance programs.
- Train and mentor team members to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively carry out their roles.
- Provide guidance and support to team members during high-stress and high-volume disaster situations.
- Serve as a liaison between the HUGS division and other FEMA departments, as well as external stakeholders.
- Participate in emergency management exercises and training to maintain a high level of readiness.
- Keep up-to-date with current emergency management practices, policies, and procedures to continuously improve the HUGS division's operations.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to disaster assistance programs.
- Collaborate with other FEMA divisions and external partners to develop and implement disaster recovery plans.
- Represent FEMA in meetings, conferences, and other events related to disaster assistance and emergency management.
- Continuously assess and evaluate the performance of the HUGS division and implement improvements as needed.
Education And Knowledge: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Emergency Management, Public Administration, Or A Related Field Is Required. In Addition, Extensive Knowledge Of Emergency Management Principles, Practices, And Procedures Is Necessary For This Role.
Experience: Candidates For This Position Must Have At Least 5 Years Of Experience In Emergency Management, With At Least 3 Years In A Supervisory Role. This Experience Should Include Coordinating And Overseeing Disaster Response And Recovery Efforts.
Leadership And Communication Skills: As A Supervisory Emergency Management Specialist, Strong Leadership And Communication Skills Are Essential. The Ability To Effectively Lead A Team And Communicate With Individuals At All Levels, Including Government Officials And Community Stakeholders, Is Crucial For Success In This Role.
Critical Thinking And Problem-Solving Abilities: The Hugs Supervisor Must Be Able To Think Critically And Make Sound Decisions In High-Pressure And Constantly Evolving Situations. This Individual Should Also Possess Strong Problem-Solving Skills And The Ability To Adapt To Changing Circumstances.
Knowledge Of Fema Programs And Regulations: Familiarity With Fema Programs And Regulations, Particularly Those Related To Individual Assistance And Housing Assistance, Is Important For This Role. Experience With Disaster Declarations And The Stafford Act Is Also Beneficial.
