- Serve as a technical expert on sign language interpretation and provide guidance and support to other interpreters in the field.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards of conduct while representing FEMA in a positive and respectful manner.
- Maintain accurate records of interpretation services provided and submit reports as required.
- Participate in disaster response and recovery efforts as needed and be available for deployment to disaster areas.
- Continuously assess and improve upon interpretation services provided by seeking feedback from individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and implementing necessary changes.
Fluency In American Sign Language (Asl) And Extensive Knowledge Of Various Signing Systems And Techniques.
Certification As A Professional Interpreter Through A Recognized Organization Such As The Registry Of Interpreters For The Deaf (Rid).
In-Depth Understanding Of Emergency Management And Disaster Response Protocols, Including Familiarity With Fema Policies And Procedures.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Convey Information To Individuals With Varying Levels Of Hearing Abilities.
Demonstrated Experience Providing Sign Language Interpretation In High-Pressure And Fast-Paced Environments, Such As Disaster Response Situations.
