
Historic Preservation Specialist

- Develop and implement strategies for preserving historic structures and neighborhoods in the aftermath of natural disasters.
- Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to assess damage to historic sites and develop plans for mitigation and restoration.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis to determine the historical significance and cultural value of sites and structures.
- Stay up-to-date on federal laws, regulations, and guidelines related to historic preservation and ensure compliance in all preservation efforts.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including property owners, community members, and other relevant organizations, to promote the importance of historic preservation.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to property owners and other stakeholders on preservation techniques and best practices.
- Work closely with FEMA's disaster response teams to prioritize and address preservation needs in disaster-affected areas.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to assess damage and monitor preservation efforts.
- Prepare and submit reports on preservation efforts, including progress updates and recommendations for future preservation projects.
- Participate in meetings and conferences related to historic preservation and disaster response to share knowledge and expertise.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on historic preservation for FEMA and provide training and guidance to other team members as needed.
- Continuously evaluate and improve preservation strategies and processes to ensure the most effective and efficient methods are being utilized.
- Represent FEMA and the historic preservation program in a professional and positive manner at all times.
Bachelor's Degree In Historic Preservation, Architecture, Urban Planning, Or Related Field.
Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience In Historic Preservation, Preferably In A Government Agency Or Non-Profit Organization.
Knowledge Of Federal And State Historic Preservation Laws, Regulations, And Guidelines.
Strong Research, Writing, And Communication Skills, With The Ability To Prepare Reports And Presentations.
Experience In Project Management And Ability To Work Independently, As Well As Collaboratively With Interdisciplinary Teams.
