- Develop and implement long-term planning strategies to guide the growth and development of the City of Ventura.
- Lead and manage a team of planners in the research, analysis, and recommendation of land use policies and regulations.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including city officials, community groups, and developers, to gather input and address concerns related to planning projects.
- Review and evaluate development proposals to ensure compliance with city codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis of economic, social, and environmental factors to inform planning decisions.
- Develop and maintain relationships with neighboring municipalities and regional agencies to coordinate planning efforts.
- Stay updated on current trends, best practices, and legislation related to urban planning and incorporate them into the city's planning strategies.
- Prepare and present reports, plans, and recommendations to city officials, community groups, and the general public.
- Monitor and track progress of planning projects and make adjustments as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff members to enhance their skills and promote professional development.
Extensive Experience In Urban Planning: The Ideal Candidate Should Possess A Minimum Of 5-7 Years Of Experience In The Field Of Urban Planning, With A Proven Track Record Of Successful Project Management And Implementation Of Land Use Policies.
Knowledge Of Local And State Planning Regulations: A Principal Planner At City Of Ventura Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Relevant Local And State Planning Regulations And Laws, Such As The California Environmental Quality Act (Ceqa) And The General Plan.
Strong Communication And Collaboration Skills: The Ability To Effectively Communicate And Collaborate With Various Stakeholders, Including City Officials, Community Members, And Other Departments, Is Essential For A Principal Planner To Be Successful In Their Role.
Leadership And Management Experience: As A Principal Planner, The Candidate Should Have Prior Experience Leading And Managing A Team Of Planners, As Well As Overseeing And Coordinating The Work Of Consultants And Contractors.
Master's Degree In Urban Planning Or Related Field: A Master's Degree In Urban Planning, Architecture, Or A Related Field Is Typically Required For A Principal Planner Position At City Of Ventura. This Degree Should Be From An Accredited University And Provide A Strong Foundation In Urban Planning Principles And Practices.
