  1. Conduct thorough inspections of building structures within the city to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  2. Identify and document any potential safety hazards or violations and report them to the appropriate authorities.
  3. Review building plans and blueprints to ensure they meet all necessary standards and regulations.
  4. Communicate effectively with contractors, architects, and property owners to address any issues or concerns related to building codes and regulations.
  5. Investigate and resolve complaints or disputes regarding building structures and code compliance.
  6. Keep accurate and detailed records of all inspections, violations, and follow-up actions taken.
  7. Stay up-to-date on any changes or updates to building codes and regulations and ensure they are implemented in all inspections.
  8. Collaborate with other departments within the city to coordinate inspections and address any cross-functional issues.
  9. Provide guidance and assistance to city staff, contractors, and property owners regarding building codes and regulations.
  10. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to building inspections.

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge Of Building Codes And Regulations: A Qualified Building Inspector At City Of Ventura Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Local, State, And National Building Codes And Regulations To Ensure Compliance With Safety And Structural Standards.

  • Experience In Building Inspection: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 3-5 Years Of Experience In Building Inspection, Preferably With A Municipal Government Or Similar Agency. This Experience Should Include Conducting Inspections, Reviewing Plans, And Issuing Permits.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Building Inspectors At City Of Ventura Are Required To Communicate With A Variety Of Stakeholders, Including Homeowners, Contractors, And Other City Officials. Therefore, Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For This Role.

  • Attention To Detail: A Building Inspector Must Have A Keen Eye For Detail To Identify Potential Hazards Or Code Violations During Inspections. This Includes Being Able To Accurately Review And Interpret Building Plans And Specifications.

  • Technical Proficiency: Building Inspectors At City Of Ventura Are Expected To Use Various Tools And Technology To Perform Their Duties, Such As Measuring Devices And Computer Software. Candidates Should Have A Strong Aptitude For Technology And The Ability To Quickly Learn And Adapt To New Tools And Software.
