Job Description

Welcome to the City of Tucson, where we are dedicated to providing safe and high-quality water to our community. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Water Quality Laboratory Manager to join our team and help us ensure the highest standards of water quality. As the Laboratory Manager, you will oversee all aspects of our water quality laboratory, including managing staff, maintaining equipment, and implementing quality control procedures. We are looking for a detail-oriented and knowledgeable individual with a passion for water quality and a strong commitment to public health. Join us in making a positive impact on the lives of our community members by joining our team as the Water Quality Laboratory Manager.

  1. Manage and oversee daily operations of the water quality laboratory, including scheduling, staffing, and coordinating with other departments.
  2. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to water quality and laboratory operations.
  3. Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure accurate and reliable testing results.
  4. Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning and accuracy.
  5. Train and supervise laboratory staff, including setting performance goals, providing feedback, and conducting performance evaluations.
  6. Conduct regular audits of laboratory procedures and processes to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  7. Collaborate with other departments to address any water quality issues or concerns and develop strategies for improvement.
  8. Keep up-to-date on industry advancements and best practices in water quality testing and make recommendations for implementing new technologies or methods.
  9. Prepare and maintain records and reports to document laboratory processes and testing results.
  10. Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment, including proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  11. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
  12. Represent the water quality laboratory and the City of Tucson in a professional manner at community events and meetings.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Chemistry, Environmental Science, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In A Water Quality Laboratory Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Federal And State Regulations Related To Water Quality Testing And Analysis.

  • Experience Managing A Team Of Laboratory Technicians And Analysts.

  • Strong Communication And Organizational Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Report And Present Data To Stakeholders.
