Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the City of Tucson.
Conduct regular audits of financial transactions and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
Collaborate with other departments to gather financial data and provide support for budget planning and decision-making.
Identify and resolve discrepancies or issues in financial records and reports.
Keep up-to-date with changes in accounting and finance regulations and make recommendations for process improvements.
Mentor and train junior accountants to ensure accurate and timely completion of financial tasks.
Communicate financial information and reports to relevant stakeholders, including senior management, elected officials, and external auditors.
Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes by providing financial expertise and analysis.
Assist with the preparation of annual financial reports and presentations to city council and other governing bodies.
Proactively identify potential financial risks and provide recommendations for risk mitigation.
Collaborate with external auditors to ensure timely completion of audits and address any findings or recommendations.
Maintain confidentiality and security of financial information and records.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree In Accounting Or Finance: A Senior Financial Accountant At City Of Tucson Must Possess A Bachelor's Degree In Accounting Or Finance To Demonstrate A Strong Foundation In Financial Principles And Practices.
Cpa Certification: A Senior Financial Accountant Should Be A Certified Public Accountant (Cpa) To Show A High Level Of Expertise And Knowledge In The Field Of Accounting.
Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Accounting: The Ideal Candidate For This Role Should Have At Least 5 Years Of Relevant Experience In Accounting, Preferably In A Municipal Government Setting.
Strong Understanding Of Gaap And Gasb Standards: City Of Tucson Follows Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (Gaap) And Governmental Accounting Standards Board (Gasb) Standards. A Senior Financial Accountant Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of These Standards To Ensure Accurate And Compliant Financial Reporting.
Excellent Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills: The Role Of A Senior Financial Accountant Requires Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills To Identify And Resolve Complex Financial Issues And Discrepancies. Candidates Should Have A Track Record Of Successfully Analyzing Financial Data And Providing Strategic Recommendations.
