Job Description

Are you a skilled and experienced equipment operator looking for a challenging and fulfilling career? The City of Tucson is seeking a dedicated Equipment Operation Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to operate a variety of equipment, including heavy machinery, to support the maintenance and construction of city infrastructure.   1. Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoes, bulldozers, and excavators, to perform maintenance and construction tasks for city infrastructure.
  2. Ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment at all times, following all safety protocols and guidelines.
  3. Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of equipment to ensure proper functioning and report any issues to supervisors.
  4. Communicate and collaborate with team members to coordinate tasks and ensure timely completion of projects.
  5. Follow project plans and specifications to accurately complete assigned tasks.
  6. Maintain a high level of accuracy and quality in all work performed.
  7. Adhere to city regulations and policies, as well as state and federal laws, while operating equipment.
  8. Provide training and guidance to new equipment operators as needed.
  9. Keep accurate records of work performed, including equipment usage, materials used, and project progress.
  10. Continuously strive to improve skills and knowledge in equipment operation and maintenance.
  11. Demonstrate a positive attitude and strong work ethic in all aspects of the job.
  12. Remain flexible and adapt to changing work environments and schedules.
  13. Represent the City of Tucson in a professional and respectful manner at all times.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Is Typically Required For An Equipment Operation Specialist Role At The City Of Tucson. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Basic Level Of Education And Is Able To Understand And Follow Instructions.

  • Relevant Experience: Previous Experience Operating Heavy Equipment, Such As Bulldozers, Excavators, And Loaders, Is Often Required For An Equipment Operation Specialist Position. This Experience Can Be Gained Through Previous Employment Or Vocational Training.

  • Valid Driver's License: A Valid Driver's License Is A Must For An Equipment Operation Specialist Role, As The Candidate Will Be Required To Operate Various Types Of Equipment On City Roads And Construction Sites. A Clean Driving Record May Also Be Necessary.

  • Technical Skills: An Equipment Operation Specialist Should Have A Solid Understanding Of The Technical Aspects Of Heavy Equipment, Including The Ability To Read And Interpret Technical Manuals And Diagrams. Basic Knowledge Of Mechanics And Electrical Systems May Also Be Required.

  • Physical Fitness: This Role Involves Operating Heavy Equipment For Extended Periods Of Time, Often In Challenging Environments. Therefore, Candidates Must Be Physically Fit And Able To Lift Heavy Objects, Stand For Long Periods, And Work In All Weather Conditions. A Pre-Employment Physical Exam May Also Be Required.
