Job Description

  1. Conduct thorough inspections of buildings and properties to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  2. Identify and document any code violations and report findings to appropriate authorities.
  3. Enforce building codes and regulations to ensure the safety and quality of public structures.
  4. Collaborate with city officials and community members to promote a safe and livable environment for all.
  5. Stay up-to-date on current building codes and regulations and communicate any changes to relevant parties.
  6. Educate property owners and contractors on building codes and regulations to promote compliance.
  7. Respond to complaints and inquiries regarding building code violations and provide resolution.
  8. Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports and documentation.
  9. Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure code violations have been corrected.
  10. Provide guidance and assistance to other city departments and agencies regarding building codes and regulations.
  11. Attend meetings and training sessions to stay informed on industry developments and best practices.
  12. Proactively identify potential safety hazards and report them to appropriate authorities.
  13. Collaborate with other code inspectors and city departments to ensure consistency and accuracy in code enforcement.
  14. Handle any other duties or projects related to building code inspections, as assigned by superiors.

Job Qualifications
  • Relevant Education: A Code Inspector At City Of Tucson Should Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent, With A Preference For Candidates With A Degree In Building Code Enforcement, Construction Management, Or A Related Field.

  • Certification: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Relevant Certification As A Code Inspector, Such As The International Code Council (Icc) Residential Building Inspector Certification Or Similar.

  • Experience: Candidates Should Have A Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience Working In A Code Enforcement Or Related Field, Preferably In A Municipal Setting. Experience In Construction, Building Inspection, Or Property Maintenance Is Also Desirable.

  • Knowledge Of Codes And Regulations: A Thorough Understanding Of Building Codes, Zoning Regulations, And Other Relevant Laws And Regulations Is Essential For This Role. Candidates Should Be Able To Interpret And Apply These Codes Accurately.

  • Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Code Inspectors Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With A Variety Of Stakeholders, Including Property Owners, Contractors, And Other Government Officials. Strong Interpersonal Skills, Attention To Detail, And The Ability To Remain Professional And Courteous In Challenging Situations Are Crucial For This Job.
