- Develop and implement engaging recreational activities for campers, including games, arts and crafts, sports, and nature-based activities.
- Foster a safe and inclusive community for campers, promoting positive behavior and resolving conflicts.
- Inspire and motivate campers to learn, grow, and have fun in a dynamic and fun outdoor environment.
- Ensure the well-being and safety of campers at all times, following established protocols and regulations.
- Assist in the planning and organization of daily schedules and activities.
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and co-workers to provide updates, address concerns, and promote a positive camp experience.
- Serve as a role model for campers, exhibiting professionalism, responsibility, and enthusiasm.
- Collaborate with other camp counselors and staff to ensure a smooth and successful camp operation.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation, including attendance, incident reports, and camper evaluations.
- Attend and actively participate in all required training sessions and meetings.
- Adhere to all city and camp policies and procedures.
- Continuously seek opportunities for personal and professional growth and development.
- Represent the City of Sunnyvale and the camp program in a positive and professional manner at all times.
Experience Working With Children: A Camp Counselor Should Have Prior Experience Working With Children In A Recreational Setting, Such As A Summer Camp, Afterschool Program, Or Youth Sports League. This Experience Demonstrates The Ability To Engage And Interact With Children In A Positive And Responsible Manner.
First Aid And Cpr Certification: It Is Important For A Camp Counselor To Have A Current First Aid And Cpr Certification In Case Of Emergencies. This Qualification Shows That The Candidate Is Prepared To Handle Any Potential Medical Situations That May Arise While Working With Children At The Camp.
Knowledge Of Recreational Activities: A Successful Camp Counselor Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Recreational Activities Such As Sports, Arts And Crafts, Team-Building Games, And Other Outdoor Activities. This Knowledge Allows The Counselor To Plan And Lead Engaging And Age-Appropriate Activities For Campers.
Strong Communication Skills: Effective Communication Is Crucial For A Camp Counselor To Build Positive Relationships With Campers, Parents, And Other Staff Members. The Ability To Clearly And Respectfully Communicate With Others Is Essential For Creating A Safe And Enjoyable Camp Experience For Everyone Involved.
Ability To Work In A Team: Camp Counselors Must Be Able To Work Collaboratively With Other Counselors And Staff Members To Ensure The Smooth Operation Of The Camp. This Includes Being Able To Take Direction From Supervisors, Contribute Ideas To Group Planning Sessions, And Support And Assist Fellow Counselors When Needed.
