Job Description

Are you passionate about sports and have a knack for officiating? The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Adult Sports Official. As an integral member of our Recreation department, you will have the opportunity to promote an active and healthy lifestyle for our community through overseeing adult sports programs and competitions. If you have a strong understanding of various sports and the ability to maintain fair play and sportsmanship, we want to hear from you! Join us in creating a fun and enjoyable experience for our adult sports participants.

  1. Officiate adult sports programs and competitions in a fair and unbiased manner.
  2. Ensure that all games and events run smoothly and efficiently.
  3. Enforce rules and regulations of each sport to maintain fair play and sportsmanship.
  4. Provide guidance and support to participants, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle.
  5. Act as a role model for players, demonstrating good sportsmanship and professionalism.
  6. Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
  7. Communicate effectively with players, coaches, and staff regarding game schedules and updates.
  8. Report any issues or concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  9. Attend training and meetings as required to stay up to date on rules and regulations.
  10. Continuously strive to improve the quality of adult sports programs and competitions.
  11. Assist with the set-up and breakdown of equipment and facilities for games and events.
  12. Conduct pre-game inspections to ensure equipment and facilities are safe and in good working condition.
  13. Keep accurate records of game scores and any disciplinary actions.
  14. Collaborate with other officials to resolve disputes and make fair decisions.
  15. Uphold the values and mission of the City of Sunnyvale and the Recreation department.

Job Qualifications

  • Experience In Officiating Adult Sports Leagues, Including Knowledge Of Rules And Regulations For Various Sports Such As Basketball, Soccer, And Volleyball.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Interact With Players, Coaches, And Other Officials.

  • Ability To Make Quick And Fair Decisions In High-Pressure Situations, While Maintaining A Calm And Professional Demeanor.

  • Knowledge Of Safety Protocols And Procedures To Ensure A Safe Playing Environment For All Participants.

  • Flexibility To Work Evenings And Weekends, As Most Adult Sports Leagues Take Place During These Times.
