- Serve as a law enforcement officer for the City of Sunnyvale, protecting and serving the community with professionalism and dedication.
- Attend and successfully complete a POST Academy training program, staying up-to-date on current laws, regulations, and practices in law enforcement.
- Respond to emergency calls and situations in a timely and effective manner, using sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Conduct thorough and accurate investigations of crimes, accidents, and other incidents, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
- Provide assistance and support to individuals in need, including victims of crime and those experiencing mental health crises.
- Maintain a strong sense of integrity and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions with the public and fellow officers.
- Communicate effectively with a diverse population, including residents, business owners, and fellow officers, both verbally and in writing.
- Continuously develop skills and knowledge in law enforcement through training and education opportunities.
- Collaborate with other public safety agencies and departments to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
- Uphold and enforce laws and ordinances, maintaining order and promoting a safe environment for all residents.
- Serve as a positive role model and representative of the City of Sunnyvale, building trust and fostering positive relationships with the community.

Completion Of A Post Academy: A Public Safety Officer At The City Of Sunnyvale Must Have Completed A Post (Peace Officer Standards And Training) Academy, Which Provides The Necessary Training And Education To Become A Law Enforcement Officer.
Active Post Certification: In Addition To Completing A Post Academy, Candidates Must Also Possess An Active Post Certification, Which Is Required By The State Of California For All Law Enforcement Officers.
Physical Fitness: The Job Of A Public Safety Officer Requires A High Level Of Physical Fitness And The Ability To Handle Physically Demanding Tasks Such As Running, Lifting, And Restraining Individuals. Candidates Must Be Able To Pass A Physical Fitness Test.
Excellent Communication Skills: Public Safety Officers Must Be Able To Communicate Effectively With The Public, Fellow Officers, And Other Emergency Responders. This Includes Both Verbal And Written Communication Skills.
Clean Background: The City Of Sunnyvale Requires All Public Safety Officer Candidates To Pass A Thorough Background Check, Which Includes A Criminal History Check, Credit Check, And Drug Test. Any Negative Findings May Disqualify A Candidate From The Position.
